Paraphrasia

Large groups of farm animals, such as pigs or chickens, are confined in close quarters and as a result are subject to dying from communicable diseases unless antibiotics are given to them. However, according to the Union of Concerned Scientists, well over half of antibiotics produced in this country are given to animals raised on factory farms. While animals will grow more rapidly using antibiotics, an ever-present issue is whether or not the agricultural industry could survive without the full-scale use of pharmaceuticals on their livestock.
